Iran SCO membership to be finalized in New Delhi summit: FM Amirabdollahian

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has said that the Islamic Republic’s membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will be finalized in the upcoming conference in New Dehli.

The 22nd summit of the SCO Council of Heads of State will be held in the virtual format on 4 July 2023.

FM Amirabdollahian held talks with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on the sidelines of the BRICS+ in the South African capital Cape Town.

The BRICS Plus is a grouping of original members Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, together with other countries that are in the process of joining the group.

The two ministers discussed issues of mutual interest. The Iranian top diplomat pointed to his last year's visit to New Delhi, noting that Iran is keen on improving trade, economic, investment, scientific, and technological cooperation with India.

The Indian foreign minister assured that Iran’s membership in Shanghai will be completed in the imminent SCO summit in New Delhi in accordance with the preplanned schedule.
