Iran, Nicaragua FMs discuss bilateral issues

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Nicaraguan counterpart Denis Moncada, in a meeting in Managua early on Thursday, reviewed issues of bilateral importance.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of a visit to Nicaragua by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.

Speaking during the meeting, Amirabdollian termed the negotiations between the officials of the two sides as fruitful and constructive.

The Nicaraguan foreign minister, for his part, voiced Managua’s readiness for the enhancement of bilateral relations and bolstering cooperation in different areas, especially economic cooperation.

President Raisi, who is on a tour of Latin America, has already visited Caracas where he met his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro.

During a press conference of the presidents of the two countries, Raisi said that Iran and Venezuela have the capacity to increase their annual trade exchanges to $20 billion.

He said that the volume of trade exchanges between the two countries used to stand as few as $600 million two years ago while now the figure tops $3 billion.

Ministers of foreign affairs, petroleum, defense and health as well as the deputy chief of staff for political affairs to the president are accompanying President Raisi in his tour of Latin America.
