After a period of turmoil in relationships, Saudi FM arrives in Tehran

After the end of a turbulent period in the relations between the two countries, the foreign minister of Saudi Arabia arrived in Tehran.

Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan has arrived in Tehran on a visit that follows a rapprochement of relations between Tehran and Riyadh.

A meeting between Bin Farhan and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian is due shortly.

Tehran and Riyadh resumed diplomatic relations after seven years in China-mediated talks between top security officials of the two countries in Beijing in March.

The two foreign ministers met in Beijing few days afterward where they made the necessary decision for reopening of their embassies and other diplomatic posts.

Iran and Saudi Arabia severed diplomatic relations in 2016 after angry protesters rushed into Saudi diplomatic missions in Tehran and Mashhad following Riyadh’s assassination of a prominent Shia cleric Nimr Baqir al-Nimr.
