'IRGC, Army among top military powers thanks to their synergy'

Iran’s top general says cooperation and synergy between the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and the Islamic Republic of Iran Army have placed them among the top military powers of the region and the world.

Addressing the 24th meeting of IRGC commanders and officials in Tehran on Saturday, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri hailed the IRGC’s performance during the last year, saying the elite force, alongside the Army, operates as a powerful arm of the Islamic Republic.

The remarks came two days after Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei called the IRGC the greatest counter-terrorism organization in the world.

“Today, the IRGC is the biggest anti-terror organization in the world,” he said during a meeting with IRGC commanders and officials on Thursday. “It is a well-equipped military organization. It is an efficient and independent organization that can do things that many big armies in the world cannot do.”

Baqeri further said, “This revolutionary organization has thwarted the plans of the Global Arrogance,” describing the “green-wearing” forces of the IRGC as the most important obstacle to total US domination over the world.

“The IRGC is an obstacle to an absolute domination of the Global Arrogance, and this is the reason for the enmities and pressures of the United States and its allies against the IRGC,” he added.

General Baqeri further said the US is still seeking a unipolar world, arguing that Washington’s power is in decline.

“Today, Russia is standing up to the expansionism of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and China is also seeking to strengthen its military power to confront the United States,” he noted.

He added that international organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS have also demonstrated their power in the world.

These are all signs of the decline of the United States, the top Iranian general reiterated.
