'Improvement of ties with Saudi Arabia to impact regional developments'

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has expressed upbeat about the progress in the thaw of ties with Saudi Arabia, noting that the Tehran-Riyadh détente will positively impact regional developments.

The foreign minister, who is on a visit to Lebanon, made the remarks in a meeting in Beirut on Friday with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.

He underlined the significance of electing Lebanon’s next president and the formation of a new Lebanese government, and said that it is the Lebanese people and political leaders who have to decide about the upcoming election of the country.

Amirabdollahian also appreciated the efforts made by the Lebanese parliament speaker and other political groups in Lebanon for the presidential election, noting that he was certain that the Lebanese leaders will make the best decision at the best time.

The Lebanese parliament speaker, for his part, referred to the issue of election of the Lebanon’s next president, stressing that efforts are underway in this regard for reaching an agreement between the Lebanese sides.

Berri noted that Lebanon is a rich country and once the new president is elected, the country can leave behind the tough economic situation in a short period of time.

The main cause of putting pressure of Lebanon is to target the Resistance, Berri said, adding that besides the Lebanese Army, the Resistance is a main source of support for Lebanon in the face of threats.

He also welcomed the positive developments in relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia which he said would benefit the entire region.
