'US sanctions cannot stop Iran’s economic relations with Lebanon'

Underlining the importance of bilateral relations between Tehran and Beirut, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has said that the US sanctions on the Islamic Republic cannot stop Iran’s economic relations with Lebanon.

Amirabdollahian, who is on a visit to Lebanon, made the remarks in a meeting with his Lebanese counterpart Abdullah Bou Habib in Beirut on Friday.  

Noting that Iran wants nothing but more prosperity for Lebanon, the Iranian foreign minister said he was happy to see more security and stability in Lebanon.

“Lebanon is the heart of the region and any situation in Lebanon will affect the entire region,” he said.

Amirabdollahian expressed hope that different Lebanese groups would agree on the issue of electing the country’s president as soon as possible.  

He also voiced the readiness of Iranian companies to help resolve Lebanon’s problem for meeting its electricity needs.

Amirabdollahian invited his Lebanese counterpart to pay a visit to Tehran.

The Lebanese foreign minister, for his part appreciated Iran’s support for Lebanon and said that there are many grounds for cooperation with Iran.  

Bou Habib also said that his country welcomes the progress in the thaw of relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia which he said would also benefit Lebanon and the entire region.
