Head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Friday that Iranian officials have had rounds of discussions with the Russians on the issue, and it can be put forward in the upcoming multifaceted talks between Iran and the P5+1 -- Britain, China, France, Russia, and the United States plus Germany -- should the Russian plan take Iran's interests into account.
Boroujerdi pointed out that Iran expects the next round of talks with the P5+1 to prepare the ground for lifting the “unfair” sanctions slapped against the Islamic Republic.
The Iranian legislator also called on the world powers to simply acknowledge Iran as a country with nuclear know-how, and attend the negotiations with this fact on mind.
Iran has announced readiness to resume talks with the P5+1, and welcomed Turkey's proposal to host the negotiations.
The Islamic Republic and the P5+1 held two rounds of comprehensive talks in Geneva, Switzerland, in December 2010, and in the Turkish city of Istanbul last January.
Despite the widely publicized claims by the US, Israel and some of their European allies that Iran's nuclear program may include a military diversion, Iran steadfastly insists on its civilian nature, arguing that as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it has the right to develop and acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
