Families of Iranian victims of terrorism decry UN rights report as ‘biased’

In a letter addressed to Shaheed , the members of the Habilian Association, an Iranian human rights NGO comprising of a group of families that have lost their beloved ones in terrorist acts during the early years following Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, voiced their outrage over his most recent report on the human rights situation in the country.

They argued that while Shaheed’s report dismisses documents detailing the assassination of 17,000 Iranian nationals by US- and Israel-sponsored terrorist groups as mere “allegations,” he decides to include claims made by fleeing Iranian exiles and members of anti-Iran terrorist organizations in his 36-page report, which was released on March 7.

The Habilian Association members stated that rejecting clear evidence and irrefutable documents on those Iranians killed in terrorist attacks as “allegation” attests to the biased nature of Shaheed’s report.

Head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Saturday that Shaheed has been assigned by the United States to level allegations against Iran.

“Instead of contacting Iranian officials, Ahmed Shaheed contacts counterrevolutionary elements to collect information and prepare his report and also makes arrangements with the Americans as to how to draw up the report,” he added.

Iranian Justice Minister Morteza Bakhtiari also said that Shaheed’s report does injustice to the Islamic Republic.

Vigilant people see the issue of human rights as a “political” tool in the hands of the hegemonic powers, he stated, adding that Iran has suffered heavy losses in its campaign against terrorism, but a smear campaign has been launched against it.
