An Iranian lawmaker has described dialog between the Syrian government and the opposition as the only path to resolve the crisis in the Middle Eastern country.

Speaking at the 126th Inter-Parliamentary Union Summit in the Ugandan capital of Kampala on Tuesday, member of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh said the ongoing unrest in Syria must be ended by the Syrians themselves and through peaceful means, including negotiations between opposition figures and government officials as well as the implementation of political and social reforms.

He added that foreign attempts to sponsor rebels and sneak arms into the Syrian soil have actually exacerbated the situation in the Arab country.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March of last year.

While the west and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of the killings, Damascus blames ''outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups'' for the unrest, insisting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
