Iran's nuclear energy case needs cooperation of all parties concerned to resolve the outstanding issues, Yukiya Amano said in an interview with Kuwait’s News Agency (KUNA) on Friday.
He added that the new round of negotiations between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany is scheduled to kick-start in the Turkish city of Istanbul on Saturday after a hiatus of 15 months.
The UN nuclear agency chief emphasized that the Istanbul meeting "gains great importance and we hope that it yields specific results" that will help the IAEA in resolving the outstanding issues.
Iran and the P5+1 comprising Russia, China, Britain, France, the US and Germany have agreed to hold the first round of their fresh multifaceted talks in Istanbul on Saturday, April 14.
The second round of the negotiations will be held in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, but the time will be announced at the end of the Istanbul meeting.
Russia and China have separately expressed optimism about the upcoming talks between Tehran and the P5+1 group of countries.
"There are certain expectations related to the six-nation meeting with Iran in Istanbul on April 14. Iranian negotiators said they would propose new initiatives," Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday.
In addition, Chinese Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Ma Zhaoxu on Thursday expressed hope that the upcoming negotiations will resume with a good start and proceed in a constructive and sustainable way.
Iran has welcomed talks based on common ground and has repeatedly made it clear that it has no intention of negotiating over or backing down on any of its fundamental rights.
