A senior Iranian lawmaker says the calamities that have hit the region are the result of efforts by global powers to infiltrate the Middle East and control its energy resources.

“The calamities in the region are a result of the expansionism of global powers,” Iranian First Deputy Majlis (parliament) Speaker Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi-Fard said in a meeting with Deputy Head of Iran-China Friendship Association Xua Li Ming on Sunday.

“The world powers are hostile towards countries such as the Islamic Republic of Iran and the People’s Republic of China which have always tried to safeguard their independence and gain growth and development based on their domestic capabilities,” Aboutorabi-Fard added.

He further referred to the longstanding and bright history of Iran and China’s civilizations and called on both countries to explore all capacities and expand bilateral relations in all fields.

“It is necessary to use the capacities and capabilities of both countries in the modern sciences, medicine, biotechnology, nanotechnology, tourism, etc. to expand friendly ties,” Aboutorabi-Fard said.

For his part, the Chinese diplomat described the ties between Iran and China as positive and growing, adding, “The expansion of ties with Iran is among the top priorities of China’s foreign policy.”
