The number of operating drilling rigs in Northern and Southern Azadegan and Yadavaran oil fields will rise, Managing Director of the National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) Haidar Bahmani said.

Speaking to Shana, Bahmani said the number of operating drilling rigs in Northern and Southern Azadegan oil fields would rise from four to eight rigs in next few days.

Azadegan oil field that includes a Northern and a Southern part is located in Khuzestan Province and is shared with Iraq. The field as one of the largest oil fields in the world covers a 900 kilometers area.

Development plan of Northern Azadegan oil field includes two phases and each phase will yield 75 thousand barrels of oil and 40 million cubic feet of gas per day.

Southern part of the field that is slated to be developed in two phases is projected to yield 320 thousand barrels of oil and 250 million cubic feet of gas per day in the first phase and 600 thousand barrels of oil and 450 million cubic feet of gas in the second phase.

NIDC has drilled 19 developmental wells in the field since 2007 so that total number of oil wells in the field have risen to 25 which include six exploratory and appraisal wells.

On the latest situation of drilling in Yadavaran oil field, Bahmani said: Currently four drilling rigs are engaged in drilling operations in Yadavaran oil field adding the number will be increased if necessary.

Yadavaran oil field is located 70 kilometers southwest of Ahwaz City near the border with Iraq. Early production from the field has already been started with production of 20 thousand barrels per day.

Development plan of the field is aimed at production of 85 thousand barrels per day in the first phase. Oil production from Yadavaran oil field will increase respectively to 180 thousand and 300 thousand barrels per day in second and third phase of the project. Chinese company, SINOPEC, has concluded a 20 billion dollars contact for development of the fields.
