Imam Khomeini (Shazand) Oil Refinery will start supplying Iranian fuel market with 8 million liters of high quality gasoil per day later this month, the refinery officials announced.

Operator of Imam Khomeini Oil Refinery's upgrading plan Rashid Seyedian told the oil ministry's website that the main compressor of the gasoil refining unit would come on stream this week followed by launching and feeding the unit.

Seyedian said that the unit would produce 8 million liters of low sulfur gasoil per day compatible with euro-4 standards.

By launching the unit, which has the capacity to process 53 thousand barrels of oil per day, the sulfur content of the produced gasoil will come down to 40 per million having an impact on curbing pollutants, he said.

RCD, RFCC, LPG, propylene and sulfur production are the other development projects of the Imam Khomeini Oil Refinery's upgrading plan which will come on line subsequently.

Imam Khomeini Oil Refinery's upgrading plan as the largest project being implemented by the National Iranian Oil Engineering and Construction Company will make the refinery the largest gasoline producing refinery in the country.

Once the development project is accomplished, Imam Khomeini oil refinery will be the first oil refinery in the country that will convert 90 percent of its intake into high value oil products, including LPG, gasoline, gasoil, propylene and kerosene while just 8.4 percent of its products will remain as fuel oil and bitumen.

Raising the processing capacity from 170 to 250 thousand barrels per day, reducing fuel oil production from 38 to 15 thousand barrels per day, production of oil products compatible with euro-4 standards and reduction of emissions are among the main goals pursued by refinery's upgrading plan.
