Iranian officials said the country is likely to hold another international consultative conference on Syria on the sidelines of the upcoming summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran this month.

"Given the importance of the developments in Syria it is possible that a number of NAM members hold another consultative meeting on Syria. The meeting depends on the countries' willingness to hold such a meeting," Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi told reporters, according to a report by the official website of the 16th NAM Summit.

The 16th NAM summit will be held in Tehran from August 26 to 31.

The first international consultative conference on the developments in Syria started in Tehran on Thursday and wrapped up work after several hours of discussions in the evening.

Representatives of 27 world and regional states as well as the UN envoy to Tehran participated in the conference.

At the beginning of the Tehran conference on Syria, the Iranian foreign minister Salehi addressed the audience on Iran's position and policies to settle the crisis in the Arab country.

He underscored that the settlement of the crisis in Syria needs serious and comprehensive talks between the Syrian government and the opposition groups.
