“Such remarks have no technical basis,” the former head of Iran Atomic Energy Organization (IAEO) said on Friday.
The IAEA claimed in its latest report that “extensive activities” at Iran’s Parchin military complex would hamper its investigation of possible past nuclear weapons development there.
According to the AFP, the IAEA has repeated its allegations that the Parchin site might have been used for experiments using conventional explosives to design a nuclear warhead.
“Anyone who has expertise in this area knows that these statements are mere pretexts and such activities cannot be eliminated by clean-up [operations],” Salehi added.
The United States, Israel and some of their European allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program.
Iran rejects such allegations, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the IAEA, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
Tehran has repeatedly called on the IAEA not to be swayed by the US and its allies, warning that the body would undermine its credibility by publishing prejudiced reports about Iran’s nuclear work.
