A senior Iranian lawmaker says the US must be held accountable by the international community over the recent insults against the Prophet of Islam (PBUH).

“The Americans carried out the scenario to insult the Great Prophet [Mohammad] (PBUH) and they must be held accountable for this action,” spokesman of Iran Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Seyyed Hossein Naqavi-Hosseini said on Saturday.

He added that the circulation of the anti-Islam film indicates that what happened was a ‘premeditated scenario’, and was not merely an accident.

“The reactions and the positions taken by the Americans following the release of the movie prove their role in this scenario,” added the lawmaker.

Naqavi-Hosseini pointed to the publication of the cartoons mocking Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) in the French weekly Charlie Hebdo on September 19 and said this was the next step in the calculated Western scenario against Islam directed by the Americans.

Protests have been held in Muslim countries against an American movie and French cartoons that insult the Prophet (PBUH).

The American-made anti-Islam movie is said to have been made with the help of the Zionist donations totaling USD 5 million.
