Rashid Seyedian, director of capacity enhancement project at the Imam Khomeini Refinery, said the treatment facility’s output would double to 16 million lpd when the development project is implemented in nearly a month’s time from now.
“At present, the Shazand Imam Khomeini Refinery receives 250,000 barrels per day (bpd) of feedstock. The operation of the new gasoline units would slash the production of low-value materials,” he said.
The refinery, located near the central city of Shazand, produces gasoline, liquefied gas, propylene, kerosene, diesel fuel as well as fuel oil and tar.
The development of the refinery would see its daily treatment capacity rise from 170,000 to 250,000 barrels while fuel oil production would decline. The project is under way with an investment of 40.7 trillion rials by National Iranian Oil Engineering and Construction Company (NIOEC).>/q>
In May, NIOEC managing-director Farhad Ahmadi said the Imam Khomeini Refinery would turn Iran into the Middle East’s gasoline production hub.
When in full swing, the second phase of the refinery will be Iran's first petro-refinery, which can produce up to 7,500 barrels of propylene per day.
