Russian businessmen demanded Iranian traders to boost exports of Iran-made gold and jewelry to their country despite the US-led western sanctions imposed on trade with Iran, an Iranian official said.

Inspector of the Iranian Association of Producers and Exporters of Gold, Jewelry, Silver and Precious Stones Sadollah Behmanesh told  on Sunday that the Iranian gold and jewelry industry has recently sent a delegation to Russia.

"This visit should be assessed as positive and constructive in the establishment of close economic ties between Iran and Russian gold, jewelry, and precious stones traders," he said.

Asked about the nature of trade transactions under the US-led sanctions on Iran, he said that there is currently no specific problem facing the export of Iranian gold, jewelry and precious stones.

After the UN Security Council ratified a sanctions resolution against Iran on June 9, 2010, the United States and the European Union imposed further unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic over its nuclear program.

Tehran has always dismissed West's pressures and stressed that sanctions and embargos merely consolidate Iranians' national resolve to continue the path of progress.
