Exports of Iran's steel products increased by $57mln during the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 20 - October 21, 2012).

The Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization said that IMIDRO companies have exported $362.8mln of steel products during the said period, $57mln more compared with the $305bln worth of products exported during the same period last year.

Unlike exports of steel products, exports of crude steel decreased 82 percent in the period, IMIDRO said, mentioning that the fall took pace because it intends to stop selling crude steel ingots.

IMIDRO added that exports of Iron beams and rebar have witnessed a 336 and 76 percent increase during the last 7 months, respectively.

Production of steel in Iran has grown 5 million tons in the past two years despite the harsh sanctions imposed by the West against the country.

World Steel Association said in its September report Iran has produced 10.7million tons of steel in the first 9 months of 2012.

The country produced 13mln tons of steel in 2011, meaning that Iran's steel production is experiencing growth this year.

Meantime, the report said that Iran was the 16th steel producer in the world in September with a production of 1.09mln tons.
