Kazem Jalali made the remarks in a meeting with the former head of Stockholm International Peace Research Institute Rolf Ekeus on Wednesday.
Head of the Iran Majlis Research Center added that many of the ongoing disputes in today’s world are guided by major producers of arms for their own economic benefits.
Referring to the Syrian crisis, Jalali stated that weapons and massacre of people will not bring democracy to Syria.
“First, weapons must be taken out of Syria, and then regional and transregional players must stop supporting terrorists in the country in order for the situation to be remedied through democratic methods,” added the Iranian lawmaker.
Syria has been experiencing a deadly unrest since March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed in the turmoil.
The Syrian government blames the chaos on elements directed and funded from outside the country, citing reports that a very large number of the militants operating in the country are foreign nationals.
Ekeus for his part, described the Islamic Republic an important and influential country in the Middle East saying that Iran has an obvious role in establishing peace in the tension-riddled Middle East region.
