The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy has conducted military drills in southern Iran, as part of the tactical training for modern warfare initiatives.

The exercises, overseen by IRGC Navy Commander Rear-Admiral Reza Torabi, were held in the Persian Gulf waters near the city of Bandar Abbas.

They exercises aimed to boost combat readiness of the IRGC forces, familiarize them with the latest achievements, increase their response time, ensure well-timed responses to natural and manmade disasters, and allow IRGC forces to operate new weapons.

“Our present capabilities are incomparable to the past. Today, our youth, banking on the past experiences and modern science, have managed to show their capabilities to the world and be prepared for any threat,” said Admiral Torabi.

In December 2012, Iran’s Navy held six-day naval maneuvers in order to display the country’s capabilities to defend its maritime borders and maintain lasting peace in the region.

The exercises covered a vast area including the Strait of Hormuz, the Sea of Oman, north of the Indian Ocean, the Gulf of Aden, and Bab-el-Mandeb Strait.

Over the past few years, Iran has held several military drills to enhance the defensive capabilities of its armed forces and to test modern military tactics and equipment.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly assured other nations, especially neighbors, that its military might poses no threat to other countries, insisting that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
