“… After overcoming all problems and crises, Syria will emerge stronger and more powerful than before,” Rahimi said in a meeting with visiting Syrian Prime Minister Wael Nader al-Halqi in Tehran on Tuesday.
Commenting on a peace initiative put forward by the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to settle the unrest in the Arab country, Rahimi said Iran supports any plan that aims to end the conflict and protects the integrity of Syria.
Nader al-Halqi, for his part, praised Iran’s support for Syria in the time of crisis, and called for more cooperation between the two nations in different sectors.
The Syrian official, on a two-day state visit, is accompanied with 10 government officials including ministers of oil, energy and finance.
During his stay in Tehran, al-Halqi will discuss Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s peace roadmap, political and economic issues as well as regional and international developments with Iranian officials.
In an address on January 6, the Syrian president proposed a new strategic roadmap for dialogue with the opposition and political parties to resolve the unrest in Syria.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of security forces, have been killed in the turmoil.
The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants are foreign nationals.
