President Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday that Iranian ties with the European Union are growing and Iran attaches importance to relations with Slovakia in the context of the Iranian ties with the European states.

Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with New Slovakia Ambassador to Tehran Lubomir Golian. The ambassador submitted his credentials to the president.
President Rouhani said that Slovakia is to undertake presidency of the European Union Council soon and during its presidency, Bratislava government may accelerate cooperation between Tehran and the EU.
Explaining Iran's extensive potentials and capabilities to develop economic cooperation with the European Union, Rouhani said that relations between the two countries should develop more than the past.
The President called for initiating banking ties to accelerate economic cooperation.
The president underlined necessity for convening joint economic commission between private sectors of Iran and Slovakia and said that strengthening ties between chambers of commerce and setting up 'Joint Chamber of Commerce' will play an important role to develop economic and trade cooperation between Tehran and Bratislava.
Lubomir Golian said that Iran is a rich country with educated people and civilized culture and that his government is willing to establish consolidated ties with Tehran in all fields, especially in politics and economy.
He said that Slovakia Embassy in Tehran is obliged for diplomatic missions in Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Middle East and is practically a regional Embassy.
Golian said that during the periodic chairmanship of EU, Slovakia will do its utmost to strengthen cooperation between Iran and EU.
