Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi on Sunday strongly condemned the verdict issued for Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim, Bahrain's most prominent Shiite cleric by Bahraini regime.

Qasemi also expressed concern over security approach adopted by Bahraini government in dealing with such affairs.

Bahrain’s government is now labeling Sheikh Isa Qassim and his two close relatives with unfounded accusations and instead of bringing them to court is now looking to prosecute religious verdicts, he said.

Once again he advised Bahraini officials to adopt interaction and dialogue in dealing with people and avoid such measures which will make the situation much more complicated, he said.

People in Bahrain are stepping in the peaceful path of Ayatollah Sheikh Qassim and they are calling for removal of restrictions on their religious leader in their peaceful protests, Qasemi added.

It is expected that the Bahraini government pays due attention to his spiritual status and influence and respect people's demand and stop continued pressures on Bahraini Ulemas, he said.

Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim was sentenced to one year of suspended sentence, confiscation of properties and assets and 100,000 Dinar in fine
