Foreign Minister of Canada Chrystia Freeland in a statement congratulated President Hassan Rouhani on his re-election as Iran’s president.

In his statement released released on Canadian Government Website, Freeland said, ” Following the re-election of Hassan Rouhani as president of Iran, Canada welcomes President Rouhani’s commitment to continue implementing Iran’s nuclear obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and to improve the lives of ordinary Iranians.”

“Canada will continue to advance its values and interests when engaging with Iran, including respect for human rights and a peaceful resolution to conflicts affecting the region,” the statement continues.

The incumbent President Hassan Rouhani won a landslide victory obtaining over 23.4 million of votes (57%) from more than 41 million ballots cast on May 19 in the 12th presidential election.
