Iran president stresses importance of Chabahar port city

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has emphasized the significance of Chabahar Port City in southern country as connecting Africa, parts of Asia to Central Asia, Caucasus, Europe and Russia.

President Rouhani made the remarks Monday addressing a meeting at the Ministry of Road and Urban Development.

Iranian president also stressed the importance of connecting Iran and Iraq through railways.

He expressed hope for launching the railway linking Khorramshahr Port City in Iran's Khuzestan Province to Basra in southern Iraq.

Completion of the railway will be vital for Arbaeen pilgrims, he added, referring to the Shia Muslim religious annual ritual.

He referred to good achievements made by the country in the aviation sector, saying investments in this field were mostly political and social and not economic.

Earlier on Sunday, an advisor to Iran First Vice President Ishaq Jahangiri, Hassan Danaeefar and Iraq's minister of transport Abdullah Luaibi discussed finishing the railroad between Iran and Iraq.

Both sides discussed the solutions to expand ties in transportation, which included the completion of the railroad from Khorramshar, southwestern Iran, to Basra, southeastern Iraq.
