Iran veep urges enhanced cooperation among Tehran, Baghdad, Damascus

Iran’s First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri on Tuesday called for increased cooperation among Iran, Iraq and Russia.

Speaking during a meeting in Damascus with Syrian President Bashar Assad, the Iranian vice-president said that the war in Syria was not a war against the Syrian government and nation, rather it was a war against the regional security and the Axis of Resistance.

However, he noted that the war was lost due to prudence and wisdom of the Syrian government and nation and support from friendly countries.

“Even if there was any doubt in the past about the root causes of this war and the sponsors of terrorism, today it has become evident to anyone that the war was initiated and continued with intellectual, financial and military support from the Westerns, particularly the US, and certain countries in the region,” Jahangiri said.

Noting that world security relies on security in the region, he said, “If Daesh (terrorist group) had formed a state in the region and the cores of terrorist groups had not been demolished, the Westerners would have been witnessing terror, violence and inhuman crimes in their own countries. Therefore, they have to be grateful to Syria and other countries that pioneered in the fight against terrorism.”

Jahangiri also referred to cooperation between Tehran, Ankara and Moscow to find a solution to Syria crisis within the framework of Syria Peace Talks in Astana as a helpful effort.

The Iranian vice-president said that the presence of a high-ranking Iranian delegation in Damascus in the current time indicates that the war in Syria nears its end and the time for construction of the country has come.
