President Rouhani: Iran can be safest transit route for Tajikistan’s goods

Iran can be the best and safest transit route for Tajikistan’s goods, said President Hassan Rouhani in a meeting with Foreign Minister of Tajikistan Sirodjidin Muhriddin on Saturday.

"We have to try hard to develop Tehran-Dushanbe relations in different fields to the benefit of both nations," said President Rouhani.

"Iran has always favored stability, full security and development of Tajikistan", he said, adding, "We are ready to provide Tajikistan with more technical-engineering services and share experiences in implementing projects; it is an honor for Iranian companies and private sector to provide our friendly countries with the best of activities and services."

Today, the region is in special conditions, facing terrorism and foreign interventions, said Rouhani, adding, "Now that terrorist have left Iraq and Syria, there are concerns that they may become active in the Central Asia and Caucasus; thus, Iran and Tajikistan can increase their cooperation in fighting terrorism."

Muhriddin said in the meeting that Iran and Tajikistan are brother countries and the expansion of their relations is of great importance.

He also said that Tajikistan wishes to use the advantages of Chabahar Port, southeastern Iran, and Iranian companies' technical and engineering services in energy and infrastructure.  

Regarding Iran's policy to fight terrorism and extremism, he said, "Terror groups are very dangerous for the people of the region; therefore, everyone should cooperate with each other to fight terrorism."

Referring to Tajik president's invitation to President Rouhani to officially visit Dushanbe, he hoped that President Rouhani would attend Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) that is to be held in Dushanbe soon.

Muhriddin arrived in Tehran on Friday. He met Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif and discussed expansion of ties, friendship groups, water, energy, transportation, holding joint political and consulate consultations, mutual and international cultural cooperation, as well as fighting extremism and terrorism.

On Friday, he had meeting with Iranian Minister of Energy Reza Ardakanian too.
