Grossi: Most of Iran’s Uranium Stockpiles Remain Inside the Country

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Monday that, in the agency’s assessment, most of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles have remained inside the country.

According to KhabarOnline, an Iranian News Agency, “Rafael Grossi,” the IAEA chief, stated on Monday that the bulk of Iran’s enriched uranium is still located within Iran.

In an interview with the Russian network Ria Novosti, Grossi explained: “Of course, we have a serious lack of information—and from a non-proliferation perspective, this is very negative—because even if these facilities have been severely damaged, there is a clear understanding that most of the highly enriched uranium Iran possesses is still in the country. From a non-proliferation standpoint, this is very important.”

He had previously claimed—without condemning what Iran describes as the aggressive and illegal attacks by the United States and the Israeli regime on the Islamic Republic of Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities—that Tehran still possesses highly enriched uranium and sufficient technical know-how to build nuclear weapons in the near future.

These remarks come despite repeated assertions by Iranian officials, as well as IAEA reports, emphasizing the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program.
