Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has met with his Kazakh counterpart, Yerzhan Kazykhanov, on the sidelines of the fourth meeting of the foreign ministers of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

During the meeting on Wednesday in Kazakhstan’s capital, Astana, Salehi stressed the necessity of increasing cooperation between the two countries and called for exchanging high-level delegations in order to speed up the development of Tehran-Astana collaboration.

He further emphasized the importance of mutual consultations between Iran and Kazakhstan on regional and international issues.

The Iranian foreign minister also reiterated that the cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and CICA would help maintain stability and peace in the region.


The Kazakh foreign minister, for his part, congratulated Iran on the successful holding of the NAM summit in Tehran and expressed gratitude to his Iranian counterpart for presenting the Islamic Republic’s views regarding the important regional security-related issues during his earlier speech at the CICA meeting.

Earlier on Wednesday, Salehi also held talks with his Turkish counterpart, Ahmet Davutoglu.

During the meeting, the two officials discussed the important regional and international issues as well as the bilateral ties between Iran and Turkey.

The CICA is a multinational forum for enhancing cooperation to promote peace, security and stability in Asia. It has twenty four member states accounting for nearly ninety percent of the territory and population of Asia. Eight countries and three multinational organizations have the observer status.
