There is effective cooperation on regional issues, in particular on the Caspian Sea, between the two countries, Lavrov said in a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif which was held before his trilateral meeting with Iran and Turkey.
The Russian foreign minister described Iran's cooperation on international issues fruitful, and lauded Islamic Republic's role in Syria talks held in the Kazakh capital of Astana.
Lavrov referred to high-level consultations between Iranian and Russia officials and voiced hope for the elevation of all-out ties between the two states.
The Russian foreign minister said that he will discuss various issues, including the Iranian nuclear deal with Zarif.
