Held at the Perrotin Gallery Fire of Joy displays a collection of works that combine the traditional bead embroidery technique with thick layers of acrylic and gold leaf.
According to website of the gallery, the exhibited items portray a remarkable and hybrid visual language that draws at once from popular Iranian and Western cultures.
Fire of Joy will travel to Rome’s Extraspazio Gallery in September after it is closed on July 28 at the Parisian gallery.
“I have collaborated with Extraspazio Gallery for many years and this would be my third solo showcase at the gallery,” Moshiri said in a press release.
Moshiri studied fine arts at CalArts in California and started experimenting with installations, video art and painting before coming back to Tehran in 1991.
He is well known for his ironic interpretations of hybrids between traditional Iranian forms and those of the consumerist and globalized popular culture.
General Understanding, A Dream in Tehran, Brain, Silver Portrait on Red and Stereo Surround Sofa are among Moshiri’s better-known works.
He is represented by The Third Line art gallery in Dubai and his works are housed at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
