Iran's Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani says the enemy’s adventurism and plots against the regional countries will backfire and haunt themselves.

The enemies are at work devising new plots and divisive policies for the region, but their actions will definitely boomerang on themselves and the Zionist regime (of Israel) more than anyone else, Larijani said in the city of Qom on Wednesday.

The Iranian parliament speaker urged the regional countries to remain vigilant in the face of enemy plots as such adversary powers began to devise new schemes after suffering blows from the popular revolutions in the region.

On the situation in Syria, Larijani said the US and UK have recently adopted hostile policies towards the country, warning that any measure to tamper with the regional developments will backfire.

He further said that enemies have started playing a new game against Iran, adding that the adversaries harbor malicious intentions behind their hostile attitudes against the Islamic Republic.

Enemies seek to put economic pressure on Iran, Larijani said, adding their “adventurism against Iran mostly revolves around economic issues, and we need to take measures in this regard delicately.”

The US and EU have recently imposed tough financial and oil sanctions against Iran in a bid to pile pressure on the country over its nuclear energy program.

The US administration in late March approved sanctions, imposed on December 31, on Iranian crude oil exports, which bar foreign banks from doing business in the United States if they buy or sell Iranian crude oil.

The EU also on January 23 decided to ban oil imports as well as petroleum products from Iran and freeze the assets of the Iranian Central Bank across the EU. The European Union also imposed a ban on the sale of gold, diamonds, and other precious metals to Iran.

Iran has repeatedly dismissed allegations over its nuclear activities, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
