Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili says the enemies of the Muslim world are seeking to foment ethnic and sectarian strife among Muslims.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Tuesday, IRNA reported.

Jalili also noted that regional issues must be resolved by the regional states themselves, adding that a political solution based on democratic values is the only way to resolve the crisis in Syria.

He also called on regional countries to carry out strategic consultations to thwart enemies’ plots against Muslims.

For his part, Erdogan called for unity among Muslims and reiterated the need to combat terrorism.

The Turkish prime minister also expressed Ankara's support for Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear technology.

Jalili, who is in Turkey at the head of a high-ranking delegation to hold talks with senior officials of the country, also met with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu shortly after his arrival in the country on Monday.
