The Islamic Republic of Iran climbed one position in the new edition of the FIFA rankings to land in the 48th spot in the world.

According to the latest monthly rankings released on 14 August 2014, the Iranian team collected 563 points, and stood at the second place among Asian teams.

Despite disappointing performances in Brazil, 44th-placed Japan (593 points) remain Asia's top side in the world ranking.

The Japanese are followed by Iran, Uzbeks and Korea Republic who occupy the 48th, 51th and 57th spots respectively with 563, 528 and 499 points.

Germany remain the top-ranked football team in the world with 1,736 points, and Argentina stand behind Joachim Low's men in second spot with 1,604 points, with Netherlands occupying the final podium spot after their third-place finish at the World Cup with 1,507 points.

Colombia (fourth), Belgium (fifth), Uruguay (sixth), Spain (seventh), Brazil (seventh), Switzerland (ninth) and France (10th) complete the top 10.

The next FIFA World Ranking will be published on 18 September 2014.
