The foreign minister made the remarks in an interview with Al Jazeera TV network, which was released on March 29. He pointed out to the important stances of the Islamic Republic on regional issues and the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Iran’s incumbent administration pursues serious negotiations with other parties to pave the way for returning of all sides to the JCPOA commitments; so, the Iranians and the US delegations exchanged messages indirectly in the months leading to the fall unrest in Iran, he said, but following the onset of riots, certain states, including the US, made mistakes and intervened in Iran’s internal affairs; however, the negotiating parties can reach a consensus and finalize a deal to revive the JCPOA if the US adopts a realistic approach.
On prisoner swap between the US and Iran, he noted that Tehran proposed a text in this regard from March 2022 and the two sides exchanged non-paper messages in recent weeks to update the plan.
Pointing to the role of Qatar in the previous negotiations as well as prisoner swap, he noted that Doha has always played a constructive role in this respect and it is expected to continue this path.
As to recent regional developments, the top diplomat said that the region is approaching to a high understanding of the realities; so, the regional players focus on dialogue, peace and security.
Touching upon the Manama-Tehran ties, he said that Iran has always welcomed natural relationship with Bahrain, and that the two sides have agreed upon dispatching technical delegations to visit their embassies and diplomatic hubs.
Asked about the impact of Saudi-Iran agreement on the situation in Yemen, he argued that Tehran has always tried to play a constructive role in promoting establishment of peace, stability and security in the region through political negotiations.
On potential meeting between foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Iran, Amirabdollahian said that they will decide on the venue and timing of the meeting in the coming days.
He further pointed to China’s role in the Saudi-Iran agreement to resume diplomatic ties, stating that Chinese President Xi Jinping naturally pursues the security of energy transfer as well as stability and tranquility in the region to implement its development projects; thus, the Chinese government follow up a constructive attitude in dealing with the West Asia region.
