Iranian, Syrian presidents set to meet again: FM

Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi, who is on an official visit to Syria, is due to meet with his counterpart Bashar al-Assad on Thursday for the second time in two days, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has said.

Amirabdollahian said on Thursday that the meeting will take place in the next few hours and will be aimed at concluding issues discussed in the first round of talks for which the Syrian side needed time to evaluate.

The top Iranian diplomat said that the first round of the talks between Raisi and Assad have yielded good results, with the two presidents being determined to expand bilateral cooperation in all fields, especially in the fields of economy, trade, tourism as well as science and technology.

Security issues were also discussed by the two presidents and in Raisi’s meetings with Resistance leaders and Iranian military advisors present in Syria, Amirabdollahian said, adding that those issues are especially discussed due to the Zionist regime’s actions against the security of the region and Iran in the past years.

The foreign minister hailed the comprehensive cooperation agreement signed by President Raisi and his Syrian counterpart on Wednesday, saying that it was the first such document inked by the two countries in the history of their ties and added that the document deals with bilateral issues for decades to come based on a strategic view.
