China-Iran trade hits $5bn in Jan-April period

The Customs of the People's Republic of China has announced that trade volume between China and Iran exceeded $5bn during the January-April period.

The latest statistics published by the Chinese customs office show that mutual trade experienced a 4% increase in the first four months of the current year compared with the same period last year, reaching $5.23bn.

According to the previous figures, the bilateral trade between the two states stood at $5.02bn in the same period of 2022.

China’s import volume from Iran in the first four months of 2023 decreased by 39% in comparison with the same period last year, reaching $1.52bn, while the digit was reported to be $2.49 bn in the same period last year.

However, China’s export to Iran increased by 46% in the January-April period of 2023, reaching $3.71bn, while Chinese businesses exported commodities worth $2.53 bn in the same period in 2022.

According to the statistics, China imported $386mn of goods from Iran in April and exported $797mn of commodities to the Islamic country in the same month, which indicates a 30% decline in terms of imports and a 30 percent increase in terms of export compared with the indices in April 2022.
