A senior Iranian lawmaker has criticized certain European states for failing to fully uphold anti-terror laws and called on the European Parliament to take “serious and viable” measures regarding the issue.

Undoubtedly, time is ripe for the European Parliament to avoid double standard policies and make serious and practical efforts to counter terrorism. It should demonstrate its determination to the world in this regard, said Head of Iran Majlis Human Rights Sub-committee, Zohreh Elahian in a letter to President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz, IRNA reported on Wednesday.

She also added that terrorism has turned into a factor threatening international peace and security.

The Iranian legislator also rapped the European Union for its financial and moral support for some terrorist groups.

Does the European Parliament remain committed to the implementation of Resolution 1373 of the UN Security Council that calls on UN member states to work together to suppress terrorist financing?, she further pointed out in the letter.

“It is surprising that the European Parliament, which claims to fight against terrorism, has adopted no stance on the assassination of Iran’s scientific elites and despite Israel’s role in recent acts of terror, the regime has always been supported by European countries,” Elahian said.

The remarks come against the backdrop of a string of assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists over the past few years. Iran blames the US and Israel for the series of deadly attacks against Iranian scientists.
