The speaker of Iran's Majlis has extended his condolences to India over the death of scores of people in the recent flash floods in India's Assam province.

In a message to India’s Lok Sabha (Lower House of Parliament) Speaker Meira Kumar on Monday, Larijani also announced Iran's readiness to send humanitarian aid to the Asian country.

Heavy monsoon rains have caused the Brahmaputra River -- one of Asia's largest -- to overflow in at least nine places and inundate hundreds of villages across Assam.
So far, over 122 people have been killed and millions displaced by torrential rains and massive flood and large scale destruction of infrastructure, cropland and wildlife reported from different parts of the state.

Twenty-six of the 27 districts of Assam state have been affected by flash floods since June 24 as a result of the torrential rains.

The floods also submerged large swathes of a national wildlife reserve, Kaziranga National Park, which is home to endangered species including tigers, one-horn rhinos and elephants.
