Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast welcomed the United Nations General Assembly's resolution condemning the US sanctions against Cuba, and said the vote proved the United States' isolation.

The UN Assembly on Tuesday voted to denounce the commercial, economic and financial embargoes imposed by the US against Cuba.

A record number of 188 member states of the Assembly supported the measure while the United States, Israel, and the Republic of Palau voted against it. The Marshall Islands and Micronesia abstained.

Speaking on Thursday, the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman said that the vote denotes the isolation of the US and the Israeli regime, which unilaterally seek to carry out such measures against nations.

"We believe that the era of unilateral cruel and illegal measures against nations has come to an end," Mehman-Parast.

The US imposed a partial trade sanction on the Caribbean island nation in October 1960. The measure later evolved into a full trade embargo in February 1962.
