Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ramin Mehmanparast, says respect for other nations’ rights is the Islamic Republic’s pre-condition for negotiation with the United States.

“Anytime they [Americans] realized that the key to popularity in the [world's] public opinion is respecting the rights of other nations, we would be ready to hold constructive talks to meet our national interests,” Mehmanparast said in a televised interview on Monday.

“The conditions for talks must be suitable [for both sides], and the two negotiating parties should see signs [to prove] that serious action is going to be taken for the resolution of problems,” he added.

The spokesman added that the Americans are still delusional and think they can impose their viewpoints on various issues through media and military means.

For the sake of our independence and our revolution, the Iranian diplomat stated, we will endure these pressures and are not willing to slide back into the subordinate position and follow the US policies.

Mehmanparast also dismissed reports about clandestine talks with Washington, noting that the US officials' allegations were an attempt to encourage bigger turnout in the country’s November presidential polls.

“As long as US sticks to past policies, there will be no need for negotiations.... When fair conditions for talks are provided, we will welcome [negotiations], but we have not yet observed any fundamental change [in US behavior],” he concluded.
