Iran’s Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani has denounced the Israeli airstrike on a research center in Syria, urging the regional countries to distance themselves from the Zionist enemy.

“Following the Zionist regime’s aggression against Syria, now is the time that regional countries which are causing unrest in Syria by [sending] weapons and facilities to come to their senses and separate their paths from that of the Zionist enemy,” Larijani said in an address to a Majlis open session on Sunday.

He added that the Israeli regime would suffer the consequences of its aggressive measure against Syria.

Since the outset of unrest in Syria some two years ago, we have repeatedly declared the Islamic Republic’s support for the promotion of democracy in Muslim countries, the Iranian Majlis speaker pointed out.

The US, the West and certain reactionary regional states “bear a grudge” against the anti-Zionist resistance in Syria but some governments in the region have failed to realize this fact, Larijani said.

The setbacks that Israel has suffered following the wars that it has launched over the past years should alert the Zionist regime as to its inabilities, Larijani said, warning that the Tel Aviv regime would otherwise face a fate similar to that which befell the deposed Shah of Iran.

On January 30, the Syrian Army said in a statement that two people were killed and five others injured in an Israeli airstrike on a scientific center in Jamraya, located 25 kilometers (15 miles) northwest of the capital Damascus.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011. Many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed in the violence.

The Syrian government has said that the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and that a very large number of the militants operating in the country are foreign nationals.
