"Iran's missiles program is in line with the country's defense doctrine for the legitimate defense and protection of Iran's national sovereignty and territorial integrity and it is not a threat to any country," Mehman-Parast said in reaction to the statement issued at the end of the recent G8 Summit in London.
The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman then pointed to the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program, and said, "As we have reiterated many times, the Islamic Republic of Iran's nuclear program is completely peaceful and under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and can no way cause concern."
"On this very same basis, we entered the talks in a constructive and active manner in the Almay II meeting and presented our proposals," he said, and continued, "As Mrs. (Catherine) Ashton declared after the negotiations now the representatives of the Group 5+1 should study these proposals in their capitals and declare their views.
"Hence, the response and the manner of the G5+1's encounter (with Iran's proposals) will disclose that they want real negotiations in pursuit of a full settlement of the issues on the basis of the international law or are just after some other goals,'" Mehman-Parast continued.
"It is regrettable that those states which are the main source of global insecurity and usurpation of the nations' rights by accumulating nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), creating and rendering all-out support for different forms of terrorism, adopting contradictory standards and anti-human rights behaviors and applying threat and sanction policies in the international arena, introduce themselves as advocates of peace and security and respect for human rights and mock the understanding and conscience of the human society this way," he concluded.
Mehman-Parast's remarks came after the G8 foreign ministers in a final statement issued at the end of their two-day meeting in London on Thursday expressed "deep concern regarding Iran's continuing nuclear and ballistic missile activities".
