Greece congratulated Iran's President-elect Hassan Rouhani on his victory in the country's June 14 election.

Greek Foreign Minister Dimitris L. Avramopoulos in a statement on Wednesday congratulated President-elect Hassan Rouhani on behalf of Greek president on his landslide victory in the presidential election.

In his statement, Avramopoulos expressed the hope that this election would open a new chapter for the expansion of relations between Iran and the international community.

He wished success for President-elect Rouhani to bring about peace, stability and welfare for the Iranian nation.

The Greek foreign minister called for enhanced ties between the two friendly nations of Iran and Greece.

Iran's Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar announced Saturday evening that from a total number of 36,704,156 ballots cast in Iran's 11th presidential election on Friday June 14, Rouhani won 18,613,329 votes while his main rival Mohammad Qalibaf could secure only 6,077,292 votes.
