Ministry of Health: 12,000 HIV-infected people in Iran covered by free treatment

The Iranian Ministry of Health announced that the AIDS treatment services have not decreased and now (of about 24,000 people identified) about 12,500 people are covered by free treatment services.

The Ministry of Health, in response to the report of the 'positive HIV / AIDS clubs, is behind the door' of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) said, 'None of the AIDS care centers under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Medical Sciences Universities of the country have not been shut down. . The Ministry of Health has strengthened all of its medical centers at the national level, and all services provided to patients and their families in this regard, including counseling, diagnostic and treatment services, are provided free of charge.'

According to the Ministry of Health, the services of these centers have been rising for AIDS patients since last year. For example, testing at the Ministry of Health centers has tripled and about 570,000 pregnant women have been tested since last year, of which 113 were affected and all of them were treated. Out of these 113, only two of them did not give birth to a healthy child due to delays in referral and testing.

The Ministry of Health said that the number of people treated for this disease, which received services from the Ministry of Health last year, was 9,000, now numbering 12,500.

The ministry stressed that the support of international organizations has not been cut and has only dropped in some cases.

Funding of international organizations, which accounts for about 5 percent of the country's AIDS budget, has a cooperative dimension and most of its aid is technical. Therefore, the budget for all AIDS patients services is provided by the Ministry of Health and the government.
