Iran firm on defense in face of US threats: Minister

Iranian defense minister said that the US, by denying humanitarian aids to Iranian people, has one again proved its hostility toward the nation and made the country more determined in upgrading its self-defense capabilities, .

The Americans showed that their problem with Iran is not limited to the Islamic system, Brigadier General Amir Hatami said, adding that they even prevented the life saving supplies to reach Iran's flood-hit regions. 

'The situation will impell the defense industry to take longer strides for manufacturing defensive products with higher qualities and standard much heavier,' he added.

Expressing sympathy with the families who lost their loved ones in the recent flood, the Iranian General said that his ministry would use all technical and engineering capabilities to render services to the affected people.

He said the defense ministry will stand with them until the stability in the flood-stricken areas is restored.

Referring to the reports by the US research centers that had predicted death of thousands of Iranian people in the flash floods, the minister said the number of casualties was far less than what they expected thanks to the measures taken by the supreme leader and the efforts made by the cabinet, as well as the Armed Forces.

Iran has been struggling with flash floods due to unprecedented heavy rains since March 19, coincided with the eve of New Year in the country. The phenomenon claimed the lives of at least 70 people and left thousands injured and displaced.

The disaster got at the center stage in the international arena after the US unilateral sanctions on Iran prevented the humanitarian aids and organizations from accessing Iranian flood-hit people.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif blasted the measures and described them as 'economic terrorism'.
