President visiting flood-hit areas in west

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani arrived in western province of Lorestan on Saturday to oversee the rescue-and-relief operations underway in the flood-stricken areas and give new guidelines for betterment of the humanitarian services.

The president is scheduled to attend a special meeting of cabinet members to look into situation on the ground and adopt measures to alleviate sufferings of the people.
Rouhani will also preside over a meeting of provincial crisis management headquarters.

Two million Iranians have been affected by heavy rain and flooding living in tents and are subject to dire situation.

Iranian government is critical of lack of sense of humanitarian values of Trump Administration for refusal to suspend the economic sanctions making difficult process of relief operations.
President Rouhani said last week: Had Trump Administration the minimum sense of humanitarian values, it must have suspended sanctions on Iran for a single year to enable the government to respond accurately to the floods victims.

The flood claimed lives of over 70 Iranians, wounded over 1,000 and displaced about 280,000.

Among the dead, 15 were from Lorestan Province.
