He made the remarks while addressing the nation live on the occasion of the 32nd demise anniversary of the Founder of the Islamic republic in Iran Imam Khomeini.
He noted that the Islamic Republic was the most important of many initiatives by the late Imam Khomeini.
Ayatollah Khamenei said there have been no predictions about the fall of any political establishment in the world the way the Islamic republic has been subject to.
From the onset of the establishment of the Islamic Republic, some enemies, ill-wishers and those from inside and outside of the country, who could not tolerate the enormous phenomenon, said that the Islamic Republic cannot stay alive until two or six months and or one year later and it will be vanished.
The honorable Imam’s assertiveness and firmness as well great victories of the Iranian nation in eight-year-war and other different incidents calmed down such hue and cries; so, these hums came to an end late in Imam Khomeini’s life and there were no sign of them.
The glorious and honorable of mystery of durability of the Islamic Republic comes from two words: Republic and Islamic; people and Islam; republic means people and Islam means religious democracy.
The great job done by the honorable Imam was that he coined the theory of Islamic Republic and put it into different political theories; then, he utilized it in real world.
At that time, there were different Eastern and Western political theories, but Imam Khomeini initiated the theory of Islamic Republic. He succeeded in not only creating a theory but also implementing it. That measure was very great.
Imam Khomeini believed in people and their might, determination and loyalty very much.
As for the upcoming presidential elections in Iran, the Supreme Leader noted that if there is malfunction and inefficiency, it should be made up through correct and proper election not through refusing to take part in voting. If there is any weakness in managements, what is the way out of it? Do you think, the solution for the problem is that we should not interfere in managements? Or not, the remedy is that we should get involved in it and create an appropriate management, which is completely Islamic and popular, and this is the way out of it. If there is annoyance, it should be made up in this way not via refusing to take part in elections.

Among the world's political systems, there is no system whose downfall has been anticipated as much as that of the Islamic Republic. Since day one, ill-wishers have said it would collapse in two months or so, but the Islamic Republic has grown stronger day by day.
The key to the Islamic Republic's permanency is in the 2 words "Islamic" and "Republic." Our magnanimous Imam's great act was that he created and actualized this idea of an Islamic Republic. The base for the realization of that theory was his deep knowledge of Islam and people.
All individuals should feel it to be their duty to not only take part in the elections but also to enjoin others to do so. This is enjoining the truth. "And enjoin each other to [follow] the truth; [Quran 103:3].
Each candidate must be committed to social justice, reducing rich-poor gap, boosting domestic production, and fighting corruption, smuggling and excessive imports. They must state this today so that if they do not do so after winning, supervisory bodies can hold them accountable."
Imam Khomeini, who steered the popular uprising in Iran culminating in the fall of former regime of Shah, passed away on June 3, 1989.
He is known as one of the most influential leaders who inspired many other revolutions all across the world.
