FM: Iran considers US practical behavior as criterion for negotiations

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said Iran will judge on the basis of US practical behavior, adding that the contradictory messages conveyed through media and diplomatic channels will not be the criterion for final decision.

Speaking to IRNA and IRIB, Amirabdollahian described his visit to New York as an opportunity for elaborating on Iran foreign policy for European, Latin American, African, and Arab states.

He noted that his negotiations focused on developing economic cooperation and international trade.

He went on to say that Iran's return to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and Vienna talks were among other topics discussed in New York.

Referring to his meeting with American think tanks, Iranian foreign minister said he had stressed Iran's foreign policy which is based on wisdom and equanimity.

Amirabdollahian left New York on Saturday for Tehran after his five-day intensive diplomatic consultations and hard work on the sidelines of the 76th Conference of the UN General Assembly.

The new Iranian foreign minister had arrived in New York to attend the annual UNGA meeting on Monday atop a delegation. During his five-day visit with his accompanying delegation he met and conferred with some fifty political and international personalities on bilateral, regional, and international issues.

Amirabdollahian in this visit met and conferred with the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell, the Chairman of the UN General Assembly Abdulla Shahid, and many other International officials.

The new Iranian foreign minister, meanwhile, met and conferred with many of his counterparts around the globe in this visit, in which they exchanged viewpoints on issues of mutual interest, regional developments, such as Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, and the international affairs.

The top Iranian diplomat also had meetings with some of the American media correspondents and editors, heads of think tanks, and university professors while elaborating on the new Iranian government’s political and diplomatic approach, and listening to their viewpoints.
